Pink in the Tropics is a breast cancer support group which aims to help women feel less isolated during their breast cancer journey.
If you reside between Wangetti Beach, Port Douglas, Mossman through to Daintree we welcome you to make contact. Some of our members appear on our website simply to give a human face to the breast cancer journey. Please be assured that your confidentiality and privacy will be respected and that you do not have to become a member of the group to receive our support.
Pink in the Tropics was formed by a group of women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and undergone varying treatments. We exchange information and further our education on issues arising from breast cancer diagnosis.
OUR MISSION
INFORM: We provide information gained through our own breast cancer journey and referral to appropriate pamphlets, booklets, publications, websites and agencies.
EMPOWER: We assist in the empowerment of women to have a voice in their own health care and to play an active role in improving breast cancer treatment, care and services. Pink in the Tropics is involved in an ongoing campaign to increase the Patient Travel/Accommodation Subsidy Scheme and members of our group have meet with the Qld Premier Anna Bligh twice during 2010.
SUPPORT: The group is driven by women who have themselves experienced breast cancer and can offer support through their empathy to others on the Journey. We are currently establishing our Pink Care Program to provide some domestic help for local women.
The importance of partners, family, friends, carers during the journey can never be underestimated however the occasional meeting up with other women on the journey may benefit you as an individual.
If you have, at any time in your life, been diagnosed with breast cancer we welcome you to come along to our monthly get-togethers (dates & details on our EVENTS page)
