UPDATE ON PINK CARE PROGRAM

Pink in the Tropics' Care Program has extended it's services to include pre-prepared meals for women who are experiencing the breast cancer journey.
You do not have to be a member of Pink in the Tropics to avail yourself of the Pink Care Program.

We understand those times when performing a simple task seems overwhelming.
If you are experiencing the 'hitting the brick wall' feeling then a little relief from preparing a meal or house cleaning could be just the boost you need.

Pink in the Tropics employs professional caterers & cleaning companies who respect your privacy and dignity.

Our support group deals with serious issues by sharing information, caring for you the individual, extending a helping hand & maintaining a healthy dose of humour.

'Pink' members clean up for cancer sufferers
A free, home-cleaning service for women undergoing radiation or chemotherapy is just one more level of help for breast cancer sufferers in the Douglas-Mossman region.
The Douglas-based breast cancer support group
Pink in the Tropics will provide up to three hours
of house cleaning, free of charge, to women while they are undergoing radiation or chemotherapy.
"The treatment periods can last as long as 20 weeks leaving you feeling sick and exhausted."
Pink in the Tropics
secretary and breast cancer survivor Denise Collins said. "One of the first things health professionals tell you is to take it easy during treatment time--that you'll be too sick to do housework--so try to forget about it for a while.  But for many women, it's something that tends to keep worrying them.  The goal is to give women a boost and help
improve their sense of wellbeing while they have treatment."
The support group pooled a $500 grant from the Combined Club with other money gathered from their fundraising efforts to provide the service scheduled to start later this month.
Pink in the Tropics president Natalie Halse
described the cleaning service as a "beginning".  "Eventually we also hope to help with the gardening and some home handyman jobs too," she said.
The group is currently organizing a local referral system for doctors and nurses to enable Douglas women to access the service.  "This is a way for our group to put more back into the community and improve support for local women with breast cancer," Ms Halse said.

Pink
in the Tropics will be employing professional cleaning businesses to provide this service which,
at this stage, is a one time service per client.

We thank the local community for their generous support at our October fundraising events & major raffle and the
Port Douglas & District Combined Clubs Inc grant which has enabled us to start this new program.
